Rules and Regulations 19th Edition

  • • Art. 1  ORGANISATION
    • ZITOWAY Sport & Adventure of Modena, inventor of the race and depositary of the brand, looks after the sport and logistic organisation of the 18th edition of the “100 km del Sahara”.
    • It will take place from the 8th to the 13th october 2019 in Tunisia.
    • The technical and tourist organisation is taken care of by the travel agency Melville srl Reggio Emilia Italy .
    • The distribution for the foreign agencies is taken care from the agency themselves
  • • Art. 2  DEFINITION OF THE RUN
    • The “100 km del Sahara” is an outdoor foot race along the desert with a distance of approximately 100 km., divided into 3 stages: 15, 35 and 50 Km. (approx.).
  • • Art. 3  SURVIVAL KIT
    • Each competitor is obliged to carry the equipment required (survival kit) for the entire duration of the trial. The aforementioned equipment may be verified by members of the commission at any moment and must be complete. Failure to comply will result in the penalty decided by the race management.
    • Compulsory equipment:
    • 1 litre of water (minimum quantity), mineral salts, survival blanket, lighter, whistle and chemical light.
  • • Art. 4  ACCEPTANCE OF REGULATIONS
    • Enrolment in the race is seen as acceptance of the present regulations in any form on the part of the competitors. This includes any amendments and authorises the organisation to make any intervention or modification of the above during the event as per the following art. 19.
  • • Art. 5  CONDITIONS OF ENROLMENT
    • The competitors must be above the age of majority, of either sex and must present a valid medical certificate from a sports medical centre, together with a cardiac stress certificate, attesting to the suitability of the participant to take part in the race.
    • All participants must sign a consent form, absolving the organisation of any responsibility.
  • • Art. 6  CATEGORIES
    • There will be 2 categories, Runners and Walkers. For the running race there will be 2 catgories:
    • Male category
    • Female category
  • • Art. 7  VERIFICATION             
    • All certificates, documents and compulsory materials will be checked in Ksar Ghilane on thursday afternoon.
    • At the end of this verification, bib numbers will be consigned, which must be worn throughout the race and must not be cut or modified in any way, always showing their trademarks.
  • • Art. 8  THE RACE
    • The start time of each leg will be announced during the daily technical briefing.
    • Competitors must start with at least 1 litre of water and the survival kit.
    • During each leg waterpoints will be set, with water, tea and fruits supply. 4 waterpoints will be set in the 50 km and 2 in the 35 km. stage. only 1 water point for the first stage 15 km
    • Dropping litter along the path will result in immediate exclusion from the race.
    • The time of each competitor will be taken at rest stops by punching or not the tickets provided by the organisation. These passages may be verified even at check-points without refreshment.
  • • Art. 9  WATER
    • Water will only be distributed at the times dictated by the organisation.
  • • Art. 10 THE ROUTE
    • The entire route will be marked by the organisation using coloured ribbons, flags and groups of stones sprayed with the agreed colour. Competitors are obliged to follow this route. Is not possible to cut along the route, furthermore it’s necessary the punching of the tickets at the check points. Only along the route assistance and recovery for the competitors will be granted.
  • • Art. 11 CLIMATE AND TERRAIN
    • In october the average temperature in the region is forecast at 28° degrees Celsius with negligible humidity.
    • During the night, the average temperature is of 20° degrees Celsius.
    • The track will not be uniform, with variated terrain, but mostly sandy and conducive to running.
    • If sandstorms prevent visibility, the runners must stop by the side of the track and await the race commission.
  • • Art. 12 ABANDONING THE RACE
    • In case of definitive abandonment, the competitor must immediately communicate his or her decision to the commission and hand in the bib number. He or she will then remain under the care of the race party until the end of the race except in case of medical problems.
    • In case of partial abandonment, i.e., withdrawal from one leg, the competitor will be given the maximum time for the leg plus a previously agreed time penalty, but he/she may take part in all the other legs.
  • • Art. 13 TIME LIMIT
    • The time limit will be applied only in the marathon stage and it is understood in 8 hours.
    •  In the remaining stages there is no time limit imposed.
    • Is in the right of the race's director, is in case of serious delay or obvious problems, to stop the runner and force his/her withdrawal.
  • • Art. 14 CLASSIFICATION
    • The time of each competitor shall be counted in hours, minutes and seconds.
    • The total time for each stage will determine the final classification. The winner will obviously be the one who has the lowest time score.
  • • Art. 15 MEDICAL ASSISTANCE AND INSURANCE
    • Only the italian competitors will be insured for repatriation due to health reasons. This policy will be undersigned by the organisation.
    • A personal repatriation insurance is required to the non-italian runners/walker
    • There will be medical assistance throughout the race.
    • The competitors participate under their own responsibility and the organisation cannot in any way be held responsible for accidents, falls or illness during the run. Competitors cannot prevail over third-party even in case of contact or accident caused by a third-party.
    • The organisation is not required to provide insurance for any civil risk and is relieved of any responsibility for accidents, death or damage faced by the athletes during the race
  • Art. 16 RESPONSABILITY WAIVER
  •             By subscribing this rules and regulations sheet, the subscriber declare he/she has been clearly and completely informed about the risks involved not only in the race, but also in situations related to the              hosting country (turmoils, etc). The subscriber aknowledge furthermore the care and attention the organizers have taken as for the different aspects of the race; the organizers cannot in any way be                    held responsible for any accident shoudl occur during the entire event.  The subscriber takes part in the race under his/her own entire responsability and at his/her own risk, the organizers not being                    responsible for any possible accident, illness or death should occur during the journey. The subscriber cannot hold responsible any other runner/walker for any accident or injury occuring during the                    race, not even in case of direct contact during the run. The reading and signing of this rules and regulation sheet, represent an official responsabilities' waiver for the organizers and all the companies                  involved in the organization. In case of cancellation of the event, due to hosting country political/safety reason and no responsability is due to the organization, refunds will be arranged by law terms.
  • • Art. 17 LOGISTIC ASSISTANCE
    • Refreshments, breakfast, lunch and dinner are the responsibility of the organisation, as is the transport of competitors equipment, which must be contained in one bag only.
    • The setting up and dismantling of the camp will be taken care of by a local organisation.
  • • Art. 17 COPYRIGHT
    • All the rights of use of the images of the “100 km del Sahara” are exclusive to the organisers.
    • The competitors, on enrolment, consent to the use of their names and images by the organisation.
    • All photographs or videos shot during the race, may not be used by the competitors except for private use, unless special permission has been granted.
  • • Art. 18 PRIZES
    • Cups and plates will be awarded to the 3 winners in each category; a prize for the Walkers category and a prize to the winning team will be awarded.
    • Special prizes will be awarded at organisation discretion.
    • Each competitor to reach the finish line will be awarded with a souvenir medal and one finisher T-shirt.
  • • Art. 19 RIGHTS OF THE ORGANISATION
    • The Director of the race has the right to intervene and modify, at his own will and for the reasons that he will explain during the technical briefing, the development of the race as per art. 3.5.8.9.10.11.12 of the present rules. The race direction also has the right to modify the route, the kilometres or the legs for reasons due to the climatic conditions, or for both security and technical reasons.
